Résumé : This paper analyses the discussion around the words migrant and refugee sparked by Al Jazeera, who overtly chose the second denomination, by examining a multilingual corpus of articles that echoed Al Jazeera’s post. The Quatari media outlet originated an important discursive event, whose main purpose was to re-frame the refugee’s problem in order to change the perception of the situation. Al Jazeera’s move can be seen as successful, as it forced the Western media to acknowledge the negative connotations of migrant, as well as the existence of a repertoire of categories aimed at naming people on the move.
