Résumé : The stability of pleochroic haloes in biotites heated in air and in nitrogen has been studied. The haloes can be erased by the heating process; the rate of this phenomenon increases with temperature and is greater in air than in nitrogen. A comparative study of the behaviour of haloes in different minerals would yield information on the thermal history of rocks.
