Résumé : Study of the quartz thermoluminescence properties of NW European Saalian and Weichselian loessic deposits provides a promising means of loess identification and stratigraphical correlation. On the one hand, the shape diversity of the artificial TL glow curves leads to the definition of distinct loessic provinces. On the other hand, comparison of the artificial and natural thermoluminescence intensities allows discrimination of Saalian and Weichselian loesses.-M.L.
