Résumé : The author considers the town as an ecosystem. He examines its various subdivisions (climate, soil, structure, human and non-human communities, etc.) from which he chooses examples with particular reference to the city of Brussels. Suggestions for the protection and improvement of the quality of life in the urban environment are made.
