Résumé : The motor car is indispensable for many handicapped persons as it often allows them to resume an occupational activity, and it always enables them to discover again their independence and freedom to move about in a way comparable to that of persons 'sound in wind and limb'. It is accessible to the handicapped thanks to the automations of the controls that are becoming more widespread and more and more standardized, and also thanks to an effective exploitation of the possibilities and means of adaptation. First, it offers society a sufficient statistical security, the handicapped persons being regarded by the law as nothing other than a normally sound person in his responsibility for any accident that may occur. Moreover, the physical and mechanical control is based on well thought out guarantees. Official help is granted by abolition of the main motor vehicle taxes; but is that enough in view of the economic gain to society that is won back thanks to this means of transport, and the great number of handicapped persons who can thus be added to the productive stratum of the population?
