Résumé : Radical left is regaining political importance, as well as interest of scholars. In Central and Eastern Europe, the situation is similar. However, the specific historical, socioeconomic and political circumstances explain the particularities of social movements and of the left as a whole in the region. In the introduction to the symposium “Radical left in central and Eastern Europe. Constraints and opportunities” we aim at briefly presenting not only the content of the symposium and of the cases coming from the Czech Republic, Serbia and Romania, but also a more general background for the activities of the extra-parliamentary radical left in the region.
