Résumé : Mean seasonal variations of the18O/16O ratio between winter and summer precipitations have been shown to be of the order of 14%0, on the Kesselwandferner (Ötztal, Austria, 3240 meters). The mean18O content of a 4.7 m deep firn section, representing three years accumulation, is similar to that of the precipitations whereas its δox profile displays highly damped oscillations, of the order of 3%0.The measurement of accumulation of snow, based on seasonal variations of δOX in firn, appears to be unreliable in this case, as shown by the comparison of the δOX and stratigraphic profiles.
