Résumé : Background: The impact on peripheral airways of asthma patients of sputum induction (SI) procedure and the extent of the broncho-protection (BP) provided by salbutamol are unknown.Aim: To investigate, using single-breath washout test (SBWO) and exhaled nitric oxide (FENO) as markers of peripheral airway impairment (Haccuria JACI 2014), whether SI procedure impacts peripheral airways in asthma patients and, if so, whether the BP effect of salbutamol extends up to peripheral airways Methods:, FEV1, FENO, and the SBWO phase III slope (S), using helium (He) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) were measured before and 20’ after SI with hypertonic saline. One group of patients (non-BP group,n=23) did not received BP and another group (BP group,n=15) did. A third group (non-BP/BP group, n=9) performed SI with and without BP.
