Résumé : To the Editor: Kliegman and Fanaroff indicate that intestinal strictures are present in as many as 10 per cent of patients after necrotizing enterocolitis (April 26 issue).1 In contrast, my colleagues and I reviewed our data retrospectively and found a 25 per cent incidence of colonic stenosis after medical management of necrotizing enterocolitis.2 This is compatible with the findings in most reports in the literature. In 1980 we initiated a prospective study in which all infants who were successfully treated medically for acute necrotizing enterocolitis later underwent a barium-enema examination. We found an alarmingly high incidence of colonic stenosis: 36. © 1984, Massachusetts Medical Society. All rights reserved.
