Résumé : 1. 1. Preferential oxidation of glucose carbon 1 over glucose carbon 6 by thyroid tissue is confirmed. 2. 2. Malonate and fluoroacetate markedly depress glucose carbon 6 oxidation, while methylene blue mainly enhances glucose carbon 1 oxidation. DNP considerably increases both glucose carbon 1 and glucose carbon 6 oxidation. This validates the assumption that in thyroid, glucose carbon 6 oxidation qualitatively reflects the activity of the Embden-Meyerhof-Krebs pathway, whereas glucose carbon 1 minus glucose carbon 6 oxidation primarily reflects the activity of the hexose monophosphate pathway. 3. 3. Synkavit, an artificial electron acceptor, diiodotyrosine and monoidotyrosine, substrates of a TPNH linked thyroid enzyme, considerably and specifically stimulate the oxidation of glucose carbon I. This is consistent with the hypothesis that TPN+ supply is the rate limiting step in the operation of the pentose phosphate pathway in thyroid tissue. © 1961.
