Résumé : BANKS is an integrated decision support system for the financial analysis of the international banking sector. It contains two parts, a database including over six-hundred of the most important banks in the world and an analysis module implemented on microcomputer. The basic data are displayed using both tabular and graphical representations and their evolution is analysed. Fifteen financial ratios are computed from the available data. The PROMETHEE and GAIA multicriteria methodologies are used to analyse this information. A positioning of each bank within its regional sector is obtained, with a complete description of the strong and weak features of the bank, as well as a graphical representation of the structure and characteristics of the sector. BANKS is a user-friendly microcomputer program, with full on-line help available at any time and selection by menus. High resolution graphics are used to enhance the quality of its user interface. A demonstration of the system is given and further developments are discussed. © 1992 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
