Résumé :	Cette note rassemble des enseignements tirés d’un séminaire de travail réunissant des membres du BSI-BCO autour du projet d’aménagement du piétonnier, présenté par le bureau d’urbanisme SumProject. Il en est ressorti une série de remarques qui constituent tout autant de questionnements de recherche à développer. Cadrage préliminaire, cette note avance néanmoins des réflexions pragmatiques visant à améliorer la mise en œuvre du projet. Le premier axe de réflexion concerne la surdéterminition des usages, par essence porteuse d’un risque d’exclusion ou de surappropriation de l’espace public. Le deuxième axe concerne ses possibilités d’appropriations futures qui apparaissent, en l’état, cadenassées par la recherche d’un compromis entre habitabilité et dynamique économique du centre-ville. Se pose ensuite la question de la pertinence des rapports qu’entretiennent les futurs aménagements avec le patrimoine existant, tant en ce qui concerne leurs gabarits que leurs fonctions. Enfin, la note se termine en questionnant la dissociation entre la gestion de l’aménagement de l’espace public et celle de la mobilité, laissant à nouveau apparaître un compromis entre habitabilité et dynamique économique brouillant la cohérence du projet.
	Deze nota verzamelt de lessen uit een werkseminarie van leden van het BSI-BCO over het heraanlegplan voor de voetgangerszone, ontworpen door de bureau SumProject. Een aantal vragen kwam bovendrijven die evenzovele onderzoeksvragen zijn. Hoewel het gaat om een eerste kader, bevat deze nota toch een aantal pragmatische bedenkingen die het project nog kunnen verbeteren. De eerste reeks bedenkingen gaan over de sterke bepaling van het gebruik van de ruimte, wat kan leiden tot uitsluiting of dominantie in de publieke ruimte. Een tweede as gaat over de mogelijke evoluties in de toekomst die vandaag geprangd zitten in het compromis tussen leefbaarheid en economische dynamiek van het stadscentrum. Verder is er de vraag naar de verhouding tussen de huidige heraanleg en het patrimonium, zowel op het vlak van het bouwvolume en -type als functies. Tenslotte zijn er een aantal vragen over de scheiding tussen het beheer van de openbare ruimte en de mobiliteit, opnieuw gesteund op het compromis tussen leefbaarheid en economische dynamiek in een mistige samenhang van het gehele project.
	This paper collects lessons learnt from a work shop held by members of the BSI-BCO that focused on the urban design plan proposed by the spatial planning office SumProject. Several remarks have revealed a number of research questions to be developed. While the note provides a first frame, it also proposes a number of pragmatic reflections to improve the envisioned project and its realisation. The first series of remarks focuses on the over-determination of the use of public space that may risk either exclusion or domination of certain groups of the envisioned public space. A second axis highlights the possible future appropriation of public space, a compromise that is currently balancing between the liveability of the city centre and its economic dynamics. Furthermore, the relation between the existing patrimony and the future developments has been questioned, both in terms of building volumes and functions. Finally, the paper concludes by enquiring the dissociation between the management of public space and the management of mobility, again relying on the balance between liveability and economic dynamics that blurs the coherence of the project.
