Résumé : Seven aza‐aromatic‐N‐oxides have been reduced polarographically. It is suggested that the mechanism involves an intermediate (V) having the structure of an unsaturated cyclic hydroxylamine which partially dehydrates to the corresponding deoxygenated base. The half‐wave potentials of the first reduction wave correlate reasonably well with the energy of the lowest vacant orbital as calculated by various refinements of the HMO method.
