Résumé : 129Xe N.M.R. has been used to investigate intermolecular interactions between xenon and different crown ethers. Chemical shifts of this isotope measured in chloroform solutions containing various amounts of glymes and crown ethers show that the behaviour of the cyclic molecules is qualitatively very different from their linear analogues. Experimental data are interpreted in the frame of a 2− and 3‐site model developed for linear and cyclic ethers respectively. Our results support the existence of a loosely bound host‐guest pair between xenon and crown ethers characterized by an equilibrium constant K which appears to be independent of the ring size of the crown ether molecules.
