Résumé : There exists confusion as to the terminology used in the assessment of the quality of nursing care. For that reason the authors set out to clarify the terms and concepts used in a nursing audit and to translate the notions of productivity, efficacy, efficiency and performance into nursing terms. They propose an assessment system which integrates the demands of management (performance concepts) with the professional nursing requirements for quality of care. The final chapter presents recommendations for norm development as formulated by the WHO's nursing department.
