Résumé : | A biometric study comparing dental measurements of "Sangiran 6" with australopithecines, pithecanthropines, modern pongids (Gorilla) and modern hominids is undertaken. Mesio-distal and vestibulo-lingual diameters of first and second lower premolars (P3 and P4) and of first molar (M1) are considered. As a first step, a bivariate analysis of each tooth is performed. Secondly, the six variables are combined and the generalized distance between each separate fossil and the mean of the modern human reference is given. This analysis enables us to conclude that the Asiatic Meganthropus "Sangiran 6" has marked australopithecoid traits. © 1983 Academic Press Inc. (London) Limited. |
