Résumé : The role played by the various hospital committees in safeguarding and improving the quality of care is outlined. After listing the committees normally found in Belgian hospitals the role of each is briefly discussed including their likely development. The main committees reviewed are: the hospital hygiene committee; the workplace hygiene and safety committee; the employee council; the medical council; the nursing council; the medical pharmaceutical committee; the medical ethics committee; the medical audit committee; the drug monitoring committee.
