Résumé : The authors experimented with intravenous hyperalimentation with aminoacids and glucose (in a 30% solution) on nine patients. The maximum duration of the infusions did not exceed 16 days, depending on the complete recovery of the digestive functions in surgical patients. Aminoacid solutions of different kinds were used: the most concentrated of them provided the best results for a positive nitrogen balance. The whole quantity of the administered aminoacids was not always metabolized, as a fraction that varied according to the infused preparation was excreted in the urine. Some aminoacids, owing to their chloride contents, are responsible for a metabolic acidosis, which requires early correction by alkaline perfusions.
