| Résumé : | Three endocrine diseases, susceptible to provoke the appearance of a clinical syndrome with fever, are reviewed. The etiocholanolone fever is a syndrome due to high circulating levels of this 3α hydroxy 5β steroid. Etiocholanolone is a normal catabolite of adrenal androgens. Only free etiocholanolone is pyrogenic, and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several clinical syndromes including periodic disease. De Quervain's subacute thyroiditis is characterized by both inflammatory process and endocrinologic disturbance; these include thyrotoxicosis, due to the release into circulation of large amounts of preformed hormonal iodine stores, and transient blocking of the metabolic thyroid activity. Thyrotoxic storm is an acute and dramatic clinical situation, which can occur in unknown or atypical hyperthyroidism. Clinical aspects, etiopathogenic factors and physiopathologic bases of treatment are discussed. |
