Résumé : Idiopathic calcinosis may be regarded as a dystrophic disorder of subcutaneous tissues with development of numerous depositions of hydroxy-apatite crystals similar to those of enamel. Differentiation from metastatic calcifications in connection with metabolic or connective tissue diseases is needed. Etiology is still unclear, but metabolism of phosphorus and calcium fails to show detectable disorders. Over time, periods of remission are followed by exacerbations resulting in very extensive calcification of subcutaneous tissue, tendons and aponeuroses. Of the various treatments reported in the literature, only diphosphonates, whose use is fairly recent, seem capable of delaying progression of the pathologic process.
