Résumé : The author presents a historical review of the study of the mechanical properties of bone. Among the areas studied are a) the femoral resistance to traction, compression, flexion and torsion, b) the nodulus of elasticity of bone, Young's nodulus, Poisson coefficient, c) femoral hardness etc. These various factors are analyzed as functions of age and sex.
