Résumé : Asymptomatic autoimmune thyroiditis entails important iodine metabolism alterations: a possible cause of its initiation and progress into thyroid atrophy and overt myxoedema. Recent studies suggest that vascular damage may develop during the asymptomatic grades of the process. Pathogenic mechanisms remain doubtful and no rational therapeutic scheme can be proposed, except the prevention of myxoedema in the high-risk cases.
