Résumé : A neuropsychological study was made of brain traumas from the moment of admission to hospital, till 6 mth after the trauma. The application of a standardized battery of tests showed the effects in the fields of memory, attention, concentration, visuospatial organization and personality. The special case of the posttraumatic syndrome is described in detail. The measurements, taken as soon as the patient recovered consciousness, were repeated after 2 wk, 3 mth and 6 mth. The results show differences in the rapidity and in the quality of recovery according to the mental function. They also show the influence of coma and of the neurosurgical operation on recovery. Conclusions are drawn on the dynamics of mental processes after a trauma, and means are suggested for stimulating recovery.
