Résumé : Twenty patients with various malignant tumours were treated by abdominal irradiation; 16 had previously undergone abdominal or pelvic surgery. After a period of about 2 years, the patients developed an obstruction, an abscess or an intestinal perforation: for 15 of them, these complications required surgical treatment. Nine patients out of this group died: 5 after complications of the radiotherapy, 4 because of a recurrence of their cancer. Six patients - 4 of whom are quite asymptomatic- are still alive. In the group of the 5 non-operated patients, one died after neoplastic recurrence and 4 are alive, of whom 3 are asymptomatic. The discussion considers the possibility of defining, among the irradiated patients, those presenting a high risk of irreversible complications and the means to reduce the frequency of these complications.
