Résumé : Lande Edwards membrane oxygenators were tested as artificial lungs in 6 dogs: the right heart directly perfused the oxygenators during apnea lasting 1 hour. During such a pulmonary by pass, right ventricular pressure doubled in comparison with initial values, with a moderate decrease in cardiac output; mean PO2 rose from 40 to 67 mm Hg and PCO2 decreased from 54 to 49 mm Hg through the oxygenator.
