Résumé : Development of the individual comes with the acquisition of autonomy. This is jeopardized by illness, just as it is both protected and diminished by functional regression. Effective therapy can only be obtained through the sense of security to be found in dependence. Recovery occurs only with the restoration of freedom. The sense one has of one's own limitations may be affected pathologically, depending on various accidents in the acquisition of automony. The manifestations include allergic forms of rejection (asthma, eczema), warning signals in the form of emotional reactions (cardio-vascular accidents) and mental forms of rejection (phobias).
