Résumé : The three main sections of pathology in orthodontics (maxillary bases, alveolar processes and teeth) are described, and with the aid of several examples, attempts are made to demonstrate the superiority of early orthodontic treatment. The main point is to treat the etiologic causes of a disorder as soon as it appears, or even, if possible, before it appears. Such a conception should be readily applicable, because there is no reason why orthodontics should go against the stream of medicine as a whole; the early treatment eliminates the causes of the appearing disorder at the moment when the clinical symptoms are weak or even still missing; and the early examination shortens the duration of treatment with appliances and also reduces their complexity.
