Résumé : B. fragilis, an anaerobic normal inhabitant of the intestinal tract, is recovered from about 5% of bacteriologically proved bacteremias. Its high resistance to beta lactam antibiotics and to aminoglycosides accounts for its increasing importance in infectious diseases, particularly in patients with altered host defenses; in these subjects, B. fragilis may cause deadly superinfections.
