Résumé : Cases of malignant transformation after bone grafting occur in bone surgery. The phenomenon has been confirmed clinically and experimentally with regard to certain metals and certain polymeric plastics. However, the links between grafting and tumor are difficult to establish. A causal relationship can only be confirmed when the following conditions are fulfilled: localization at site of the graft; a long latency period (at least twenty years); components of the graft contained in the tumor tissue; absence of infectious elements. Any analysis of the causal relationship between a tumor and a bone graft should be based on these considerations. The literature is reviewed.
