Résumé : The complications following the use of osteotaxis in 159 cases of tibial fracture are reviewed: 7.5% of plugs showed signs of intolerance. There were no signs of septic complications. This intolerance to the plugs was treated by: relative rest of the leg, alcohol on the plugs, and their withdrawal. Appropriate nursing care will enable osteosynthesis after osteotaxis. Rigid immobilization by means of osteotaxis is sufficient if the mechanical principles of its application are followed. Only 2% of malunion cases were present in the whole series of tibial fractures treated with osteotaxis. For all these fractures, including cases of pseudarthrosis, the average consolidation time was 7.5 mth; this being 5 mth for the simple tibial fractures. The complications, such as joint stiffness, vascular or neural lesions, fractures occurring through plug holes and breakage of the appliance, are minor ones and were seen only exceptionally.
