Résumé : B2-microglobulin has been measured in the serum and in the synovial fluid of patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and non-autoimmune inflammatory arthropathy (gout, chondrocalcinosis, arthrosis). The serum levels of B2-microglobulin (B2m.) are elevated in over 50% of rheumatoid arthritis (R.A.) patients, and are indicative of the degree and extension of joint destruction as well as of extra-articular involvement; B2m serum levels are normal in non-autoimmune arthropathy. B2m is useful in the differential diagnosis of joint effusion. The synovial manifestations of bone resorption (dialysable and non-bound hydroxyproline) are related to lymphocyte levels in R.A. and to neutrophil levels in microcristalline arthritis.
