Résumé : The low FT4 values obtained with the Amerlex FT4 'analogue' system in pregnancy can be explained by increases in NEFA. The addition of albumin to serum or to a protein free medium (saline) induces modifications of the bound/total ratio and indicates that the 'analogue' tracer is, at least partly, bound to albumin. The information obtained on the chemical compostion of the Amerlex FT4 tracer suggests a structure like 125l-Thyroxine coupled to albumin. Since the real nature of the binding is still unknown, the results obtained with the analogue systems should be very carefully interpreted.
