Résumé : The NMR spectra of 26 polycondensed aza-aromatic derivatives, recorded in CDCl3 and C6D6, have been compared to the spectra of the corresponding hydrocarbons, recorded in the same solvents. This comparative survey has yielded valuable informations (a) on the perturbations produced by the presence of cyclic nitrogen atoms and (b) on specific solvent effects in the carbocyclic and heterocyclic series. The data collected can be used, with profit, to elucidate, or to confirm, the structure of complex Skraup and Doebner-von Miller condensation products. This investigation has, moreover, disclosed the first examples of well resolved spin-spin couplings involving aromatic protons located in non-adjacent rings of fused heteroaromatic systems. © 1966.
