Résumé : | Infection of hepatic cysts is not considered a classic complication of polycystic liver disease. In the rare cases reported in the literature, diagnosis was always made postmortem. We observed recurrent septicemic episodes due to infected hepatic cysts in a patient with hepatorenal polycystic disease (HRPD) who had been transplanted with a cadaver kidney. Aggressive surgical treatment, intensive antibiotherapy, and interruption of azathioprine treatment were required in order to cure the patient. With increased life expectancy of patients with HRPD because of hemodialysis and kidney transplantation, this complication is likely to occur more often in the future. © 1983 The Société Internationale de Chirurgie. |
