Résumé : | The structure of carotol, the sesquiterpenoid monoethylenic tertiary alcohol C15H26O, extracted from the essential oil of Daucus Carota, has been determined using both chemical methods and infra-red spectroscopy. This study shows that the decalanic formula proposed in 1948 by Sorm and Urbanek is erroneous. Carotol is in fact Δ2-3,10-dimethyl-6-isopropylbicyclo-(0,3,5)-decen-6-ol (I). © 1961. |
