Résumé : In his De Principiis, Damascius gives an original definition of "knowledge" (gnôsis,). The doctrinal developments which are exposed in this treatise seem to break with Aristotle's and Plotinus' conception of knowledge as identity between knower and the object of knowledge. This article is aimed to show how Damascius' gnoseology challenges the identity thesis and defines knowledge as a surmounted alterity.
