Résumé : E.S.R. studies have shown that the spins induced by γirradiation in equimolar complexes between purine and pyrimidine nucleotides localize preferentially on the pyrimidine moiety. Considering the way the molecules are associated in the complexes, it is suggested that the spin migration occurs vertically across the stacking rather than horizontally via the hydrogen bonds. The suggestion is also made that this migration of damage occurs, at the anionic stage of radical formation, by the transfer of an electron towards the nucleotide having the empty molecular orbital of lowest energy. © 1970 Informa UK Ltd All rights reserved: reproduction in whole or part not permitted.
