Résumé : WE have recently1,2 studied the effects of mercaptoethanol (HS-CH2 - CH2OH) and its oxidized counterpart, dithiodiglycol, on morphogenesis in a number of different systems (amphibian eggs, regenerating tadpoles and planarians, fragments of Acetabularia) : it was always found that mercaptoethanol inhibits morphogenesis, while dithiodiglycol has no effect or is even slightly stimulatory. © 1961 Nature Publishing Group.
