Résumé : The coupling of lysozyme with a quaternary ammonium containing carbodiimide increases its inhibitory ability against the hemolytic activity of quartz. This is in line with the fact that silica has a strong affinity for quaternary ammonium groups, but a particularly weak affinity for ammonium and guanidinium groups. It is suggested that this behavior of the silica surface could be related to its in vivo toxicity.
