Résumé : Adolescence is a difficult and unavoidable stage of life. It demands serious Psychic adjustments of identity and sexuality, confronting the adolescent with new realities. Such a sensitive transition can make the adolescent even more vulnerable when their environment offers no suPPort system. In this study we would like to focus on Palestinians who have exPerienced a brutal adolescence in the atrocities of war and endured exile in Jordanian refugee camPs. We are esPecially interested in the survival mechanisms developed in such a chaotic context, namely loyalty and the hoPe of return. By this we mean undying loyalty to the Palestinian cause and the fervent hope of one day returning to their homeland. This loyalty forges such strong belonging ties in the Palestinian community that there is no room left for the developmental tasks of adolescence. © De Boeck Université. © De Boeck Université.
