Résumé : The results of a study of the decay sequence Λ8Li → π- + 8Be* → π- + 4He + 4He are presented. The dominance of the transition to the 2.9 MeV level of 8Be is confirmed. The total rate of transitions to the states of 8Be at around 17 MeV is found to be 0.09 ± 0.02 of that to the 2.9 MeV level. This ratio, together with the angular correlations observed in decays involving these ∼ 17 MeV levels, has been used to determine ε{lunate}, the mixing angle for Λ hyperon coupling to the lowest states of 7Li in the formation of Λ8Li. The allowed ranges of values of the mixing angle ε{lunate} are found to be 0.1 to 0.4 rad. and 0.9 to 1.2 rad. © 1974.
