Résumé : The duoplasmatron source described in this paper has been completely constructed in the Laboratoire de Physique Électronique de l'Université Libre de Bruxelles. For a maximum arc current of 40 A, it delivers 1.2 A of ion current. This high performance is made possible by the use of a filament cathode of great emissivity and by the increase of the plasma density. This source is designed to be integrated in a compact accelerator and, as the mean current delivered by the high voltage generator is limited to 14 mA, it has been necessary to pulse the source in order to meet this limitation. Thus the pulsing of the source is also described: it consists of a generator capable of delivering pulses of 300 V and 40 A with rise and fall time of 0.2 μs. This duoplasmatron has been working for several months and is behaviour is very satisfactory. © 1977.
