Résumé : Pooled human saliva was submitted to a chromatographic fractionation on diethylaminoethyl-cellulose, and some of the eluates were further separated by chromatography on carboxymethyl-cellulose. Two plasma proteins, albumin and γA-immunoglobulin, were identified among the salivary components, and appeared to be present in rather high concentrations. Among the saliva-specific components here identified, some were already well known from the literature, e.g. salivary amylases (EC 3.2.1.1), lysozyme (EC 3.2.1.17), salivary mucins, and a component giving a double-bowed precipitin line in immunoelectrophoresis. In addition to these, a number of components is here described for the first time: salivary α1-, α2- and β1-globulins, mucosal α2-globulin, and a cathodal component. In addition, the occurrence in saliva of lactoferrin, an iron-binding protein previously reported in milk and bronchial secretions, has been established. © 1965.
