Résumé : | By two successive moultings the «minor worker» of Bellicositermes natalensis can develop into a «major soldier». Its mandibles and its head exhibit important allometric growths. On the other hand, the labrum, the maxillae, the hypopharynx and the prementum are reduced and lose cuticular formations wich probably have mechanical and sensorial functions. Problems raised by these transformations are mentioned. © 1962 Masson & Cie. |
