Résumé : The local potential variational method recently introduced by Prigogine and Glansdorff is applied to the study of the stability of a kinetic equation. The problem of runaway instability of a two-component plasma is especially considered and an expression for the critical field is derived. This expression explicitly takes account of the dissipative processes both in the steady state and in the perturbation from it. The relationship to the results by Dreicer et al. is briefly discussed.
