Résumé : Morbid obesity is defined by Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 kg/m2 or more, or by a BMI of 35 kg/m2 or more in the presence of co morbidities. The only effective therapy for it is currently surgery. Efficacy varies with the type of procedure. Restrictive forms include lap band, vertical gastroplasty and sleeve gastrectomy, a malabsorptive form is the biliopancreatic diversion, and a gastric by-pass is a combination of both. Endoluminal surgery, performed entirely through natural orifice, offers the potential for a less invasive weight loss procedure. We review the various endoluminal techniques which are currently either in routine use or in evaluation, and will also address the role of endoscopy in management of complications occurring after bariatric surgery.
