Résumé : This article brings to light an asyet unpublished chapter of Franco-Belgian music publishing by means of focusing on the famous piano exercise book The Virtuoso Pianist in Sixty Exercises by Charles Louis Hanon. This is undoubtedly the most important publication by the composer-publisher who was Hanon, and it remains to this day a staple of the piano teacher's repertory Looking at the period that extends from the time of publication of the first edition in 1873 to the eve of the First World War, we will discover the changes undergone in the book of exercises as the author's publishing house was sold to various individuals who managaed it in cities from Boulogne-sur-Aler to Brussels.
