Résumé : Mitochondrial DNA damage, as judged from the 4.8 kb deletion (Δmt DNA4834), was assessed in pancreatic islets from control rats, animals with inherited diabetes (GK rats) and rats injected with streptozotocin during the neonatal period (STZ rats). Although the deletion product was occasionally detected, there was no difference between diabetic rats and corresponding control animals. This suggests that the age-dependent 4.8 kb deletion does not play any major role in the perturbation of islet function in these two animal models of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
