Résumé : | Growth and maturation status is generally accepted as a suitable indicator of the health and nutritional status of a studied population. The secular trend has been observed in all industrialized countries: general health and better nutrition seem to be major factors. An analysis of the secular trend in Belgium of height, weight and weight-for-height relationship shows that the effects of environment are different for these three measurements. Differences in secular trends in the various age groups show that in proportion to the attained height the secular trend does not differ from childhood until adulthood. An analysis of nutrition in Belgium during recent years shows some effects of the current economic crisis. © 1985 Academic Press Inc. (London) Limited. |
