Résumé : The Rice–Allnatt theory is generalized to take into account the effects of spatial displacements during collisions. The new term appearing in the singlet equation modifies the kinetic part of the transport coefficients. The most important consequence of the extension is that the Smoluchowski equation is no longer needed to describe the distortion of the non-equilibrium pair correlation function, which accounts for the potential parts of the transport coefficients. This function is evaluated in the same approximation as the generalized collision operator. Explicit expressions are given for the potential parts of the thermal conductivity and shear and bulk viscosities, for a 6–12 Lennard–Jones potential modified by a hard core. Comparison is made with the corresponding results of the Prigogine–Nicolis–Misguich theory. © 1972 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
